Microsoft Office Groove 2007 is a collaboration software program that helps teams to work together more effectively. Working in Groove 2007 workspaces saves time and increases both individual and team productivity.

Microsoft Office Groove Server 2007 gives IT organizations enterprise-class server software and tools for deploying, managing, and integrating Microsoft Office Groove 2007 software across the enterprise.
Office Groove Server 2007 includes three components:

  • Office Groove Server 2007 Manager
  • Office Groove Server 2007 Relay
  • Office Groove Server 2007 Data Bridge.

Together, these three components enable you to control and optimize the use of Office Groove 2007 software in your organization and create custom solutions integrated with enterprise systems.

Microsoft Office Groove Enterprise Services provides IT organizations with powerful Web-based tools to centrally manage smaller deployments of Microsoft Office Groove 2007 without any onsite server infrastructure.

Office Groove Server 2007 and Office Groove Enterprise Services are the two options IT organizations have to centrally manage and control their Office Groove 2007 deployments. Customers consider two main criteria when choosing Office Groove Server 2007 or Office Groove Enterprise Services: cost and functionality. Generally, Office Groove Enterprise Services are more cost-effective for smaller deployments, while Office Groove Server 2007 is more cost-effective for larger deployments. Office Groove Server 2007 provides additional functionality including Active Directory synchronization, administrative control over server functions through roles-based access control, the ability to create multiple domains, and custom reporting opportunities using SQL Server Reporting or Crystal Reports for Visual Studio.

Note: Office Groove Enterprise Services is a monthly subscription service. Therefore, it is not available as Full Packaged Product or through the Open License program.

Requirements
For 2007 Microsoft Office system programs including Access, Excel, Groove, InfoPath, OneNote, Outlook, Outlook with Business Contact Manager, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher, SharePoint Designer, Visio, and Word, you will need:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later or Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (or higher) operating system required
  • 500 megahertz (MHz) processor or higher
  • 256 megabyte (MB) RAM or higher
  • DVD drive
  • 1 GHz and 512 MB of RAM or higher is required to run Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager
  • 2 GB free hard disk space necessary for install; a portion of this disk space will be freed after installation if the original download package is removed from the hard drive
  • Minimum 800x600 monitor resolution; 1024x768 or higher recommended
  • Broadband connection, 128 kilobits per second (Kbps) or greater, for download and activation of products
    Additional components
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 with service packs, Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 or later required for Outlook 2007 users. To install Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager, you will need to first install Outlook 2007

Note: the 2007 Microsoft Office suites including Office Basic 2007, Office Home and Student 2007, Office Standard 2007, Office Small Business 2007, Office Professional 2007, Office Ultimate 2007, Office Professional Plus 2007, and Office Enterprise 2007 will have similar requirements.

Microsoft Office Groove Server 2007 Groove Relay

  • Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition SP1 operating system
  • Server computer with 64-bit processor supporting AMD64 or Intel EM64T instruction set; processor speed of 1.8GHz or higher (AMD) or 2.4 GHz or higher (Intel); single processor dual core configuration is supported; dual processor configuration is recommended
  • Computer RAM requires 4 GB minimum; 8 GB recommended; larger amounts of memory (greater than 8 GB) may be helpful when supporting large numbers of users
  • System volume: 40 GB minimum free hard disk space, 73 GB recommended (for operating system and the Groove Relay application); data volume: 250 GB minimum, 350 GB recommended; local small computer system interface (SCSI) attached storage; disk rotational speed: 10Krpm minimum; 15Krpm recommended
  • Broadband connection, 128 Kbps or greater, for download and activation of products

  • System volume: volume cluster size: 4 kilobyte (KB) (4096 bytes) for both the system volume and the data volume; volume format: NTFS file system (NTFS) is required; RAID controller: high-performance hardware-based caching controller with 64 MB of read cache minimum, write caching controller with battery backup and 128 MB or more of read/write cache minimum; disk subsystem performance: the disk subsystem for the data volume must support a write throughput of 200 KB/second as measured by the provided DBWriteTest tool, see the Groove Relay Administrator's Guide for information on running DBWriteTest; compressed and network volumes are not supported for the Groove Relay installation or data directories

    Note  The following services and applications cannot be installed on the same operating system instance as the Groove Relay: Groove Manager, Groove Data Bridge, IIS (or other Web servers or applications listening on port 80), Active Directory, Office Groove 2007 (or prior versions of Groove), other Microsoft Office servers, and Windows SharePoint Services.
    Online backup utilities and services that back up files while they are open for reading or writing in the Groove Relay installation or data directories are not supported.
