21. mai 2009 lanserte VMware sin gjeldende lisensieringsmodell for VMware vSphere 4.

For additional details on the license keys which were generated (or deactivated) as part of this order, please visit your VMware license portal.

On the license portal you can divide or combine your license quantities. This allows you to divide your purchased licenses among several deployments, or to simplify license management by having all licenses on a single license key.

On the license portal you can also exchange these vSphere/vCenter licenses for VI3 licenses.  This is necessary in case you choose to install VI3.
